Great book. I think Murakami is able to capture the human condition in a very convincing manner that just draws the reader in. I think there are catcher in the rye vibes from the protagonist and i think the characters are the same people in different contexts. The sex scenes are a little weird though, esp the last one with the motherly figure? That was quite weird. And i liked that it had a semi happy ending? That the protagonist may in the end find joy and light at the end of a very dark tunnel. Overall the storytelling is excellent and i hope the rest of the books from Murakami is as good as this.
